Doug Schulze to Support LightningCD Expansion

Former Loudeye Exec Brings Industry Connections

SEATTLE, June 28 /PRNewswire/ -- LightningCD, a new online music service that launched its site in February, has signed an agreement with Doug Schulze to expand its content offering and consumer base. Schulze has held executive positions in marketing, sales, and corporate development at public companies including Loudeye, Intel, and Convera, along with several private organizations, and he has consulted with the major music companies. He will use his music industry contacts to lead content acquisition.

According to Schulze, who has focused his career on the digital media industry over the past five years, "LightningCD fills a huge gap for music fans and artists. The industry leapt from retail CDs to individual digital tracks, completely bypassing digital CD replication. LightningCD addresses that oversight."

Schulze continues, "There are still many situations where the current digital music services just don't serve the needs of mainstream consumers. Most people want to be able to play CDs in their car, their home stereo, and in portable players. Lightning CD marries the convenience of e-commerce with these consumer behaviors."

The service enables consumers to buy and burn CDs instantly, including the ability to build custom compilation discs, from the convenience of their own computers.

LightningCD co-founder and COO Nissa Ludwig says, "Doug has managed copyright efforts with more than 500 music companies and will help us quickly get to our goal of building out an encyclopedic catalog. We're committed to supporting indie artists and exposing new talent. A part of that plan and our overall strategy is to offer content from the major labels and established artists, as well. We intend to build and offer a catalog that offers something to everyone."

Schulze has more than 15 years experience in high technology with both Fortune 50 and startup companies. He has worked closely with music companies and studios to bring their content to consumers through technology partnerships. He has provided strategic consulting to Sony Music and Vivendi Universal and was the first to close all five major music companies for a digital music offering over the Web in 2001.

Seattle-based LightningCD offers an on demand music buying experience through its site at www.lightningcd.com. Consumers with access to a computer and the Internet can have a new CD, complete with all artwork and expanded content, in less than a half hour. LightningCD's patent-pending, secure replication technology produces superior audio quality that is indistinguishable from store-bought CDs in side-by-side comparisons, at lower prices. The service also delivers artists the highest profit on sales of any distribution channel.
